KHS Medical and Dental students visited Roosevelt School to kick off Elementary Wellness Week. While there, the high schoolers conducted mini-lessons on Nutrition and Oral Health, proper toothbrushing techniques, the importance of handwashing, and implementing healthy habits at school and home.
šThe original cast of the 2020 production of The Addams Family attended the closing night show on Saturday, March 16, surprising Ms. Gonzalez and showing their support of 2024 players. It was a bittersweet moment for the cast of 2020 to see the production, as the doors of KHS closed one week prior to their showtime.
During the show, the 2020 cast jumped in and helped with the concession stand and door sales. At the end of the show, the 2020 and 2024 cast gathered on the stage for photos. Each 2020 cast member stood next to the character they were supposed to portray. The evening was extremely emotional for all.
When talking with the 2020 cast, they said, "Perhaps it was meant to be that we couldn't put on the play, as this cast blew it out of the water! They are incredible and each actor is spot on with their character!" This night gave closure for the 2020 cast to see the production come to life, and an opportunity to meet up with their own "Addams Family."š

Michael Clifford from the Lyndhurst Police Department and the Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County surprised our Kearny High School students this morning with an array of music on the bag pipes. Later, he made a visit to Ms. Hatfield's Success classroom for their St. Patrick's Day Celebration with Ms. Walsh's 6th grade class.

Families from schools across the district came together on March 11th at Garfield School to take part in the Title I Family Engagement Night. Students had the opportunity to work with their families on Language Arts and Math activities centered around Dr. Seuss.

On Saturday, March 9th, our ESL/Multilingual families joined us at the Kearny Public Library to celebrate Read Across America. Students participated in library BINGO and created a bookmark. To encourage reading, new books were raffled off. A special thank you to Mr. Humphrey from the KPL for welcoming us into the library and providing the space to host this event.

KHS class of 2021 alum Carolina Da Fonseca Guedes spoke to Mr. Vegaās Forensics Lab Honors students about several topics including the opportunities they have to become involved in academic research when they get to college, the need for more women in STEM fields, college life in general, and how she used the opportunities she had as a student at KHS to get to where she is today.
Carolina is a 3rd year student at St Peter's University triple majoring in Chemistry with a Forensic concentration, Biochemistry, and Mathematics, in addition to being in the Accelerated Master of Education program. During her time at St. Peter's, she has assisted in scientific research on the use of cashew nut shells in carbon-based supercapacitors for sustainable battery technology, and in the use of ruthenium complexes in hydrogen fuel cells, the latter of which she will be presenting at the American Chemical Society meeting later this month. She is also beginning the process of applying for PhD programs in Chemistry
