KHS: The 2024/2025 Field Trip to Rutgers Newark! On November 21st, the Planet Earth class made their 4th annual field trip to the Earth and Space Science Department at Rutgers Newark University. The class learned about a research project testing particulates in the air around Newark Airport, the NJ Turnpike and the port. Students participated in a brainstorming activity with the Newark Geoscience Ecosystem Department. They identified and addressed issues that affect urban ecosystems. A favorite with everyone this year was the Greenhouse in Plant Sciences, where students were introduced to aromatic plants, succulents, and carnivorous plants. We topped off the day with the annual Oil Game, where students learned about finding oil and gas, and what oil companies have to do to make a profit. Two teams tied with a $28 million dollar profit each. Once again, Rutgers welcomed us and provided us with both an educational and an entertaining day.
