Kearny High School celebrated 71 outstanding students during the 41st annual Academic Excellence Awards. Senior William Mullins was selected to speak on behalf of the talented group and Fernando Coelho, KHS Class of 2000 was the honored guest speaker. The event was organized by Mrs. Dorian Fasciano and a fantastic reception catered by the Culinary Arts department was held in the atrium to honor all of the student accomplishments along with their families.
KHS recently came together to celebrate and recognize the multilingual abilities of our graduating seniors at the Seal of Biliteracy Awards, in which participating students were awarded medals for their multilingual abilities. There were 53 Spanish, 16 Portuguese, 3 Polish, and 1 Ukrainian Seal awarded. Congratulations to all our Seal of Biliteracy recipients!
Mr. Torre and his AP Computer Science students would like to thank all the guest speakers they had this week for our very first Computer Science Speaker Series. Each speaker provided great college and career advice! #CSRocks💻👨💻

The Success class of KHS went on the first of many trips to come!! This is Lifetown, a village and sensory gym that caters to the special needs community. We get to do special events from all the donations we receive from fundraisers and other community members. Thank you for your support and I hope the smiles make you see how thankful the children are!!!

Rizzo's Wildlife World came to Garfield today, visiting our Preschool and Kindergarten classes. The students got to experience a variety of reptilian wildlife, from turtles to tarantulas and Boa constrictors! What a fun day!🐢

Congratulations to Mrs. Velez for being honor for Teacher of the Year for Kearny High School during our Board Meeting. Mrs. Velez received the award with her husband, her two children and her parents!!
On Saturday morning, May 18th, our ESL/Multilingual families joined us at KHS for a fun-filled, exciting Field Day Event. Parents and students came together as a community to enjoy a variety of activities and games and won prizes. A special thanks to our ESL/Bilingual Family Engagement Team for making this possible!

Our Sr. Teen PEP (teen prevention education program) class hosted a workshop at a “Day of learning” conference with other participating Teen PEP districts across New Jersey at Rider University on 5/16/24.
On Saturday, May 11, the Kearny Schools Multicultural Committee dove into the rhythmic heartbeat of Brazil through a captivating journey through the vibrant tapestry of Brazilian culture. The stage came alive with the pulsating beats of samba, the graceful movements of African dancers, and the electrifying energy of capoeira. From the infectious rhythms of percussionists to the mesmerizing agility of capoeiristas, the Brazilian Cultural Presentation was a celebration of diversity and unity. Joined by enthusiastic students and parents, participants embraced the spirit of Brazil, learning samba moves, and capturing unforgettable moments in photo ops.

On Wednesday, May 8th, KHS celebrated Gardening Day! Our students worked hard to make our school even more beautiful by planting Spring flowers in our plaza. Not only did the students learn how to prepare the pots and soil for planting, they had fun and worked together!
We would like to send a special thank you to Mrs. Pais-Sotelo, Ms. Moran, Mrs. McKenna, Ms. Hatfield, and our paraprofessionals for assisting our students. Thank you to Mr. Almeida for taking pictures and helping to coordinate this fun day.
