Unlocking the Holidays in the KHS Library Media Center
The library media center was a buzz on Halloween and the day before Thanksgiving. English Language Arts classes came up to the library media center to participate in educational breakout rooms. These breakout sessions are similar to escape rooms with an educational twist. Students we challenged to use the four C’s (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) to complete the challenges. These game based lessons had students actively engaged in cross curricular tasks. They had to solve math problems, put historical events in chronological order, sort figurative language examples, scan QR codes to access video clips, and use a UV light to read hidden messages. The classes are eager to come back and try different challenges this school year.
The students on lunch were excited and wanted to join in on the fun. This lead to Mrs. Amenta running several breakouts during October and November for student groups that visited during their lunch period.
